Paris Weekend

John and I traveled to Paris on September 24 for the weekend. I was registered to run the Paris to Versailles race and had planned to make a girls weekend out of it. However, we learned our friends Cindy and Tom Alton would be in Paris that week celebrating their anniversary, so John joined me and we had a great weekend in Paris!!

Since we have been to Paris before we did not feel like we had to really do any sightseeing. We started our day with a great breakfast along the Champs Elysees. Then decided to visit Sacre Coeur as it was a place none of us had been to yet. We took the Metro and traveled to an area in Paris called Montmartre, home to artists and musicians. There are dozens of galleries are tucked into little side streets and alley ways. We climbed the 300 steps to the dome of the Basilica and had amazing views of Paris. To celebrate our ascent we found a darling cafe and quenched our thirst with giant beers!

We had a fabulous anniversary dinner at Maison Blanche...the bottle of Rothschild wine was delicious and we were happy to share it with the Altons to celebrate their wedded bliss.

On Saturday John and I had another great breakfast on the Champs Elysees at Fouquet's. Then we caught up with the girls who were running with me and made our way to the sports expo to pick up our numbers and timing chips. We spent the afternoon wandering from cafe to cafe - stopping at one in the shadow of Notre Dame and sharing a few bottles of wine...it was a very relaxing way to pass the time in Paris.

On race day, the weather was amazing! It was nice and cool in the morning, but the sun was shining brightly through the Eiffel Tower. The race was brutal! We basically ran uphill from the 5k marker until 9k! But ending in the front of Versailles was spectacular and it is always fun to run with the girls.

John and I had a great weekend and as always, our kids were safe under Nilda's care.

Sante!
