I turned to Betsy O'Reilly for advice. She and Ed have lived here much longer than we have and know every corner of London and how to entertain children on a rainy day. Betsy had a plan - meet at the Whole Foods food court at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and then we'll head over to the Science Museum. Perfect.
Whole Foods in all of its American glory is a perfect place for lunch. A huge food court with dozens of options for lunch which made every kid happy - and we had 5 to feed, so we were in good shape. And, grown-ups are not forced to eat kid food. There are also several options for us as well. The kids had a great lunch so it was on to the museum.
When we got outside it was still raining. Betsy made a run for it to their car to get Will home for his nap. Ed, John and I decided to take the kids on walk through Kensington Gardens instead of taking a taxi. It was the best decision we made all day.
The kids were fascinated by worms that had come out of the ground. They marveled at the sight of Kensington Palace. And they were amazed at the size of the memorial to Prince Albert. Jack, naturally, started a game of "Star Wars" which Magnus and Kate were willing to play...well, as long as Kate got to be Princess Leia.
The Science Museum was great too. There is an area called "The Launchpad" that has dozens of hands-on activities for kids. One of the activities (my favorite) required us to work as a team to stack oversized foam blocks that when put together correctly formed an arch. Team Mueller worked together and Owen called it the St. Louis Arch. It was one of the best rainy Sundays we have had in London! Thanks O'Reillys!!
