While the kids and I were out walking last week, Jack noticed all of the cricket fans heading to Lord's - "Mom, all of the men are in sport coats and ties. So, me and Owen have to wear our coats and ties when we go." Whatever you say Jack.
It got quite warm in the stands so John, Jack and Owen decided they needed sun hats to protect their faces. Good thing too because we were in direct sun all afternoon...the sport coats were ditched upon sitting down.
The fans around us did find amusement in hearing our guys ask questions like, "when is halftime?" "when does the hot dog guy come around?" and "who is pitching?"
We are slowly, very slowly, learning the rules of Cricket. It is a very confusing game of "taking a wicket" or "dismissals." There are bowlers and batsmen, overs and innings. We decided there must be a "Cricket for Dummies" published so we are on the hunt for a quick explanation of this game.
The entire game comes to a halt for lunch. So along with the rest of the thousands of fans, we made our way to the food area and picnic grounds for lunch. The boys were really good sports and sat through about 20 "overs" - but that was enough Cricket for one day.
At the end of the Fourth Day, England is still in the lead with South Africa trailing by about 104 runs. Day 5 should be very exciting and we look forward to hearing the outcome of the day's overs.
